Assistant Greenhouse Manager on Regenerative Farm

Hiring for the position of Assistant Greenhouse Manager at Freedom Food Farm:

Qualifications:

-Passion for organic and regenerative farming

-One season experience vegetable production, two years preferred

-Basic understanding and/or desire to learn about soil health and crop production

-Ability to work in hot environments up to 8 hrs per day and lift 40 lbs

-Reliable transportation and ability to show up on time everyday (barring illness or unforeseen emergencies)

Primary Responsibilities:

-Work with Greenhouse Manager on all aspects of no-till greenhouse vegetable and plant production - bed prep, transplanting/seeding, trellising, side dressing, weeding, harvesting, irrigation, greenhouse repair/maintenance, etc. Greenhouse enterprise consists of 7 - 30’x96’ greenhouses growing vegetables year-round (tomatoes, squash, ginger, turmeric, etc. in summer and greens in winter). 1000 sq. ft. is used for transplant production for field crops and for sale as plant starts.

-Assist Greenhouse Manager with keeping harvest, planting, seeding, and fertilizing logs

-Supervise seasonal employees working in greenhouses

-Work in rotation with the rest of the vegetable crew in the wash and pack room on harvest/packing days

-Assist with field vegetable production as needed, averaging about 1 day/month during peak season - transplanting, weeding, mulching, harvesting.

-Assist with value-added production in the commercial kitchen during winter months, averaging 1/day month Nov-Feb.

-OPTIONAL- Manage/staff one farmers market or online sale venue. Additional compensation for this added responsibility.

Schedule:

-Starting immediately, or April at latest

-Tues-Saturday 7am-4pm, 1 hr lunch (~40 hrs/week)

-Year-round position

Compensation:

-$14-16/hr depending on experience

-free veggies

-commission if managing farmers market or online sales venue

About the farm:

Freedom Food Farm is a 90 acre regenerative, four-season, full-diet, certified organic farm located on Wampanoag land in Raynham, MA (35 min. South of Boston). Our mission is to provide community members throughout the socioeconomic spectrum with food that is healthy for them and the earth. We also use our farm products to produce value-added goods such as soups, broths, veggie burgers, pesto, etc. We distribute our products through a CSA, farm store, farmers’ markets, home delivery, and local food relief agencies.
