Job Title: Environmental Educator for Afterschool Program
Location: Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm, Portsmouth, RI
Position Type: Part-time, 90 minutes per session
Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Overview: Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Environmental Educator to lead an engaging afterschool program for middle school students. The program focuses on environmental education, farming techniques, and outdoor learning, fostering a deep connection between students and the natural world.
Key Responsibilities:
● Curriculum Development: Implement hands-on, experiential learning activities that align with environmental education, sustainable farming practices, and outdoor exploration.
● Instruction: Lead 90-minute sessions twice a week, focusing on a variety of topics such as soil health, plant cultivation, wildlife conservation, and the impact of farming on the environment.
● Student Engagement: Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and active participation among all students.
● Safety & Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during outdoor activities, adhering to best practices for outdoor education.
● Collaboration: Work with farm staff, volunteers, and other educators to integrate farm resources into the program and enhance learning opportunities.
Qualifications:
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Education, Agriculture, or a related field preferred.
● Experience: Previous experience in environmental education, farming, or outdoor learning, particularly with middle school-aged children.
● Skills: Strong knowledge of sustainable farming practices, outdoor education techniques, and environmental stewardship. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
● Passion: A genuine interest in environmental education and a commitment to fostering a love for nature and sustainable practices in young learners.
Compensation: Hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
