Foggy Notion Farm hiring part-time farm worker - Johnston, RI

Foggy Notion Farm is hiring a farm staff person to help harvest, wash, package and sell produce. This is about 3-4 days or 24-32 hours per week this summer Now - October or later. We would prefer someone who can be a bit flexible about schedule and tasks, since our marketing plans have already had to adapt a bit this season, and it seems likely that this will continue.

We may need help staffing the Saturday farmers’ market at Mount Hope Farm in Bristol, and the harvest/wash/pack cycle for this market on Friday. On Friday this requires arriving bright and early to the fields rain or shine, ready to harvest for the first part of the day, and then move to the washroom to clean and package vegetables/fruits and make bouquets. Saturday would entail arriving at the market an hour before opening to set up the stand and unload and merchandise the products, help customers and make sales for 4 hrs, and then pack anything we haven’t sold back up. We attend the Armory Park farmers market on Thursdays from 3-6pm and the Mount Hope Farmers Market in Bristol from 9am-1pm.

The position is likely to be ⅔ harvest/wash/pack/market, and maybe ⅓ field work, including preparing beds for crops and the tasks related to this. This equates to roughly two eight-hour days of harvest/wash/pack/market and one day of field work or other work to be determined per week.

The position will begin as soon as an applicant is selected.

Skills Needed for the Job:

Experience doing physical labor or exercise on a regular basis. Attention to following instructions. Being prepared for work outside in all weather. Ability to lift 50 lb crates of produce, push farm carts and wheelbarrows, squat, stand, bend, crawl among the plants while harvesting. Ability to transport yourself to the farm in Johnston and farmers markets in Providence and Bristol. Pertinent experience appreciated but not required.
