Frontier Farm is a 2.5 acre diversified vegetable and herb farm in Westerly, Rhode Island. Environmental stewardship, soil health, food accessibility, and community are our top priorities. We utilize a science-based regenerative approach and no-till methods whenever possible, focusing on soil health as the foundation for plant health. We sell our produce through our CSA program, at our farm stand, at local farmers’ markets, through FFRI’s Market Mobile, and local restaurant accounts. For the 2023 season, we’re looking for 1 full-time farm hand to work with us on all aspects of the farm. The right candidate will be passionate about sustainable agriculture and the environment, willing to learn, and enjoy working hard outdoors. Farming experience appreciated, but not required. Folks interested in staying on for more than one season are strongly encouraged to apply! This position is seasonal and will run from early May to late September, with the possibility of part-time hours into the fall.
Schedule & Compensation:
- 32 - 40hrs/week Monday - Friday
- 7am - 4pm; 1 hr unpaid lunch break
- $15/hr
- Traditional CSA half-share included & extra veggies as they’re available
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Harvesting, washing, and packing produce
- Seeding and potting-up in the greenhouse
- Preparing beds for planting
- Transplanting seedlings out to the field
- Weeding in the field and greenhouses
- Trellising and pruning crops
- Occasionally covering farmers’ market and farm stand shifts as needed
Requirements:
- Willing to work in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind
- Able to lift up to 50lbs
- Able to work using your body (crouching, bending, kneeling, lifting, etc.)
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and string trimmer
- Have reliable transportation to the farm
- Comfortable working in a small team and independently for several hours at a time
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Able to listen carefully and think critically
- Respectful of others on and around the farm
