Moonrose Farm is seeking a full time farm hand for the 2020 season.
Moonrose Farm is chemical-free vegetable and flower farm with low tillage practices and a focus on growing healthy food for our community. We have locations in Cranston, RI and Rehoboth, MA.
We are looking for one hard-working, passionate person to work 4-5 days a week April - November, Wednesday - Saturday, an average of 32-40 hours per week. This includes 4 days on the farm and 1 day (Sunday) at the Hope & Main farmers market from June-October. We will most likely have less hours available in the beginning and end of the season.
On the Farm: Our farm hand will be helping with all aspects of our operation. Tasks will include greenhouse seeding, watering, weeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, packing orders, tending to chickens, collecting and washing eggs, leading work-shares and volunteers, and various field work tasks. This person will often work with one of the farmers or a work-share volunteer, but also must be able to follow directions and work independently on tasks from start to finish. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills are a must.
Farmers Market: The market is at Hope & Main in Warren, RI from mid June - end of October, exact dates TBD. Hours will be every Sunday, 6:30-3:30. The market runs from 9am-2pm.
Tasks will include helping to load the farm pickup truck with produce and supplies in Rehoboth for the market, driving to the market (roughly 5 miles/10-15 minutes), unloading and setting up tents, tables, and produce displays, interacting with customers and selling produce, accepting payments, talking about the farm and promoting events and happenings at the farm, breaking down after market, driving back to the farm in Rehoboth. This person will often work with one of the farmers or a work-share volunteer, but also must be able to follow directions and work independently on tasks from start to finish. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills are a must. You will be representing our farm to the community, we would prefer someone with excellent customer service skills, the ability to answer questions about recipes and cooking tips, enough knowledge of our farm to explain our farming methods, and a positive attitude.
Reliability is extremely important. Must be committed to the full season. Please inform us of any planned vacations upon applying. If you have conflicts that affect setting a consistent schedule, this may not be the opportunity for you. Consider applying for a work share position instead.
We require that you are able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and participate in all field work tasks that can be physically demanding. We work in all types of weather and require our team to be adequately prepared with appropriate attire for rain/mud/extreme heat/snow. Work shifts will take place in both Cranston, RI and Rehoboth, MA and will vary week to week based on what needs to get done. You must have your own vehicle. We may ask you to take our wholesale restaurant deliveries to the East Bay or Providence areas on occasion.
At least 1 year of experience in customer service is recommended, a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and reliability goes a long way regardless of previous farming experience. You must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, experience driving a pickup truck is preferential but not required. Compensation for the farmers market shift will begin at $13 per hour. Compensation for the farm hand shifts will begin at $12 per hour plus a 25-week half share vegetable CSA.
