We are hiring for two positions this year:
Part-time Farm Store Associate Position
We are looking for one hard-working, passionate person to work at our seasonal farm stand. This position is part-time from April - December, an average of 18-24 hours per week Friday-Sunday.
-Setting up the farm stand with products and ensuring the space is clean at the start and throughout the day and restocking with inventory as needed. Closing down the store independently, ensuring products are properly stored.
-Working the register of the farm stand, handling various payment methods including SNAP EBT, gift cards, membership cards, cash and credit. Counting cash and maintaining an accurate cash drawer.
-Providing excellent customer service establishing relationships with customers and CSA members. Answering questions about the products including produce varieties, recipe ideas, and growing practices.
-Managing quality control to ensure all products are being sold at their peak freshness.
-Performing various side work tasks including arranging flower bouquets, seeding trays of crops, painting display signs, bagging vegetables, packing orders, and deep cleaning.
-Caring for the retail plant starts by watering and removing damaged leaves. Identifying plant varieties and answering basic gardening questions.
Full Time Farm Hand Position
We are looking for one hard-working, passionate person to join the team. For the right candidate there is the opportunity to grow into a management position and be a long term member of our farm. This position is full-time from April - December, an average of 40 hours per week Monday - Friday. Beginning in late December, the position will continue part-time until the following April when the full-time growing season resumes.
Our farm hand will be helping with all aspects of our operation. Responsibilities include:
-CSA - organize and pack boxes for weekly CSA distribution. Independently manage CSA pick up at the Cranston location including set up, break down, and transport using a company vehicle. Must have a valid license and clean driving record for at least 2 years.
-Greenhouse management - perform weekly seeding schedule and daily watering. Open and close greenhouses daily, depending on weather. Adhere to the hardening off schedule and moving/organizing of plants.
-Field work - participate in all aspects of field work from bed prep and transplanting to weeding and bed maintenance. This position will occasionally manage workshares during field work tasks without farmers present. The right candidate will possess the knowledge of proper plant spacing, bed prep techniques, plant variety identification, and appropriate time management as outlined in training.
-Harvest - participate in vegetable and flower harvest. Oversee workshares during harvest shift to ensure high quality of product. Harvest shifts will take place at least twice weekly for the CSA and for the store.
-Wash/Pack - Oversee workshares to complete the washing and packing of produce, filling wholesale orders, and recording yields. Provide weights of washed produce to farmers at the end of each wash shift.
-Chickens - Open up chicken coop daily providing food and water and collecting eggs. Maintain cleanliness of nesting boxes, waterer, and feeder. Monitor the health of the birds and inform farmers of any issues.
