Little Bit Farm Field Manager

Little Bit Farm in North Kingstown, RI is hiring for the 2023 season! We are a highly diversified farm that grows vegetables and flowers using all organic, no-till methods. We firmly believe that a farm is only as good as its people. At Little Bit Farm, the people that work here will learn about all aspects of farming. This is a nearly full-time SEASONAL position that will run from April 1 – October 31. The hours in April and October will be less. This is a special opportunity for someone who aspires to work in agriculture and wants to learn the ropes of how a small farm operates.

Tasks include:

Learning about all facets of farming vegetables and flowers from seed to sale. The season begins with prepping garden beds by laying compost and additional nutrients to the soil, seeding, building trellises and irrigation. As the plants grow, their health is maintained by fertilizing, pest management, and weeding. The final stage includes harvesting, cleaning, and packing the produce and flowers for sale.

After you have been trained, you will work directly with the owner in a leadership role and help manage and educate others. We will work closely with you to ensure you have the knowledge and tools to help lead others.

You might be asked to occasionally help on the weekends and at Farmer’s Markets. Little Bit Farm hosts a small number of farm to table dinners during the season. We also might have you chip in once a month on a Sunday to help clean and prepare the farm for the upcoming week. Schedules will be outlined before the season begins.

Requirements and Benefits include:

  • No previous experience required, but candidates with farming experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Nearly full time position 32 + hours each week (four days each week). Mondays and Fridays are required. Shifts run from 8am until 4pm with unpaid lunch.

  • A hardworking, no-task-is-beneath-you attitude. Farming includes tasks that are rewarding and challenging. We like to have fun, but it also must be understood that some days will be spent doing tasks such as weeding, pest management, and washing harvest bins.

  • Working in all weather conditions. We work in rain, shine and heat.

  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Must have a car.

+Driving a tractor. The owners will help train you.

  • $15 per hour.

  1. A phone/Zoom interview.
  2. If we feel that the phone interview goes well, we will set up a 2-3 hour working outdoor interview. This will be during the winter. We’ll keep a close eye on the weather to ensure the outdoor working interview happens on a warm day.
  3. If the working interview is also successful, an offer will be made. The field Manager will start in April and the Field Crew members will start in May.
