Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market Manager
Part-time, approximately 7 - 8 hours per week May - October and some additional hours required in the winter season
Key Purpose/Summary:
The Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market Manager serves as the public face of the market. The Market Manager interacts with the customers and vendors to ensure the success of The Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market. The Market Manager is also responsible for maintaining the relationship with Farm Fresh Rhode Island and the USDA, as well as performing various administrative duties related to record-keeping, fee collection, and SNAP/EBT management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be available Saturdays from 7:45am - 12:30pm from May 7 - October 29
- Market day responsibilities
- Arrives at market site 30 prior to start
- Sets up market table and tent
- Puts up market signage
- Ensures vendors set up in their designated spots
- Serves as liaison with the community and market customers
- Greets customers when they approach the info table
- Answers customer questions about the market
- Sells market coins and records transactions
- Runs SNAP/EBT cards and exchanges for market coins
- Keeps the SNAP/EBT card reader charged
- Troubleshoots issues with card reader
- Records data for FM Tracks
- Breaks down market table and tent
- Takes down temporary signage
- Administrative responsibilities
- Serves as liaison with Farm Fresh
- Attends Farm Fresh meetings and represent the Pawtuxet Village Farmers’ Market
- Quarterly, will have an occasional emergency meeting as needed
- Attends Farm Fresh meetings and represent the Pawtuxet Village Farmers’ Market
- Serves as liaison with market vendors
- Collects market fees from farmers (Collected during application submission, at the start of the market season, and then at the midpoint of the market season)
- Makes sure the vendors are reimbursed for EBT/SNAP coins collected (Farmers submit coins to Market Manager weekly, Market Manager tracks coin submissions, and shares with the Treasurer (checks are cut to farmers every two weeks))
- Serves as liaison with USDA
- Fills out and submits forms and security checks
- Reachable for any changes required by the USDA (e.g., COVID-19 protocols)
- Merchant Services compliance
- Completes yearly compliance paperwork and follows up to make sure we are not being overcharged
- FM Tracks - Farm Fresh Coins
- Manages accounting and paperwork for Farm Fresh coins
- Records every transaction done at the market table, every EBT transaction at the market table, and all EBT coins turned in by each vendor
- Collects sales data from farmers for EBT/WIC and shares with Farm Fresh
- Records all the details of the day on a market form (including weather, events, giveaways, and any community group that attends and if any charities were helped on that day)
- Recruits new vendors
- Helps identify and secure new vendors (with Farmer’s Market board approval)
- Attend occasional meetings of the Farmer’s Market board (approximately 6-8 per year)
- Serves as liaison with Farm Fresh
Additional Skills:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to details and strong organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with various technologies (e.g., email, Google Docs/Drive).
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other patrons, vendors, and suppliers.
- Punctuality/reliability.
Additional Requirements:
Position Location – Cranston, RI
Physical requirements – ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
Driving/Travel requirements – 0-10%
Must own reliable transportation capable of transporting folding table, chair, and tent.
This position is:
Hours: approximately 7 - 8 hours per week
Must be available Saturdays from 7:45am - 12:30pm from May 7 - October 29 (though there will be some work required in the winter months (e.g. coordinating with Farm Fresh, maintaining the email account))
Stipend: $7,200 per year, paid $1,000/month from May to October (bulk of working hours) and $1,200 in January for winter administrative work
