GAP Certification Contract Opportunity

Southside Community Land Trust seeks to contract with an individual (or firm) to assist 12-15 farmers in the SCLT network to earn Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Certification. This includes developing and filing individual farm produce safety plans and training. As well as providing information and systems for record keeping at each farm. The contract will require conducting an inventory of farm infrastructure and equipment needed to obtain certification as well as development of a plan to obtain needed items for certain farmers (some may need assistance filing required documentation with the State of RI).

The contractor will work with the assistance of interpreters and translators to support farmers to develop necessary records and training needed for certification, and will assist the farmers filling out paperwork involved with certification as necessary.

In addition, this coordinator will develop recommendations for how SCLT can support farmers with these certification and documentation requirements into the future.

The contractor should have familiarity with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and/or the RI Produce Safety Rule (PSR). They would act as a liaison between Farmers, SCLT and RIDEM. A good candidate will be comfortable working with people whose English isn’t their primary language.

The budget for this contract is $14,000 and includes all costs associated with delivering the outcomes (including mileage and transportation, but not including interpretation and translation costs). The project should conclude by Dec 31, 2022.
