Northwest Corner Farm in Winchester (Litchfield County) is hiring seasonal F/T & P/T Farm Crew members, starting in March/April and continuing until September/October. We are located on a beautiful hilltop 7 minutes west of downtown Winsted.
Who We Are
Northwest Corner Farm is a diversified small farm producing the highest-quality vegetables, herbs, and other food items using organic and regenerative practices. We are entering our 2nd season as a startup farm in Winchester. Our work is hand/human-scale, and we practice no-till/low till.
Job Description
Farm Crew members will assist in all areas of field production and help to ensure the farm is operating efficiently. Applicants should love getting dirty and take pleasure in a hard day’s work! This position is extremely physical, often requiring long hours of repetitive motions and heavy lifting.
Responsibilities include participation in all aspects of vegetable and herb production on a ¼ - ½ acre plot plus a 30’ x 72’ greenhouse. Farm Crew members will spend the bulk of their time working individually and as a team to prepare the fields, seed the crops, weed, transplant, and harvest vegetables throughout the season.
We’re willing to train folks interested in learning about sustainable agriculture and excited to join our core team of farm manager and farm owners. A strong work ethic + excellent communication skills are essential.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist with propagation, bed preparation, transplanting, irrigation, and weeding
Work efficiently in harvesting, processing, washing, and packing vegetables for our 25+ member CSA & wholesale accts
Farm maintenance work including weed whacking & mowing, other chores as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
1+ season of experience working in agriculture or horticulture preferred, but not required!
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Detail-oriented; ability to be flexible with daily tasks; comfortably able to lift 40lbs
Some experience with small machinery including weed whackers is a plus
Clear communication skills, open to receiving feedback
Strong commitment to organic and sustainable farming practices
Access to reliable daily transportation to the farm, and clean driving record
Positions available starting March/April and will run through September/October. Shifts may vary from 25-45+ hours per week. $16-$20/hour, depending on experience.
Farm Crew members have access to free vegetables during the summer months.
