Small queer farm seeking seasonal help May-Sept 2023

Hocus Pocus Farm is a 1 acre, chemical-free, low-till CSA farm located on Pokanoket land in Seekonk, MA–just 20 mins from Providence, RI. We grow veggies, flowers, and herbs on leased land where we share infrastructure with other farmers. This will be our 4th season and we are looking for a third person to join our crew!

We are looking for someone to be full time May-Sept ~45 hrs/week. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of farming experience and is ready to collaborate on decision making. QTBIPOC folks prioritized. Tasks include greenhouse seeding, bed prep, weeding, transplanting, harvesting, irrigation troubleshooting, managing a small workshare crew, packing for CSA and doing CSA distribution. If interested, there is more part time work in the shoulder seasons available.

Pay is a monthly stipend of $1400/mo plus lots of veggies and flowers! Because we are so small, there is no hierarchy of pay on the farm. Although we can’t pay much, we can offer lots of skills and behind the scenes insight into how a small farm runs. We prioritize soil health and making food accessible and eating ice cream :))

If interested, check out our website hocuspocusfarm.com and send us an email!

Pretty shocking that you are asking for someone with 3+ years of experience and ability to collaborate on decision making while only offering $7.70 per hour. Just a little over half of Rhode Island’s legal minimum wage. If you have 3+ years of experience and ability to collaborate on decision making you don’t need “ lots of skills and behind the scenes insight into how a small farm runs.”, what you need is a living wage. On the job training is a requirement in most fields, it is not a fair or equal exchange for labor.
