Vegetable Grower
Wanted: A farmer with 2 -3 years of experience growing vegetables organically and regeneratively with minimum till methods. The farm has a little less than a one acre CSA market garden, a prop house and two 100 foot hoop houses. This position entails carrying out an established garden plan, organizing and doing the field work entailed with bed prep, planting, cultivating and harvesting along-side a small field crew.
The job is a 40 hour per week position, mid-March to mid-November, Monday to Friday with 2 Saturdays per month switched for one weekday the preceding or following week.
We run a spring, summer, fall and winter CSA with the help of the hoop houses so that additional winter work is possible for the right candidate.
The farm comprises 130 acres and is a 15 minute drive outside of Worcester. It has a livestock component to it as well that the livestock manager handles. Farm soils are prime grade fertility. The farm store is in our beautiful post and beam barn.
Qualifications:
· 2 years direct hands on production-scale vegetable growing (references required)
· Strong work ethic and positive attitude
· Self-organized with the ability to organize a several part time crew members and coordinate with the livestock manager and farm manager.
· Ability to perform physically strenuous farm tasks including spreading compost, planting, harvesting and lifting 50 lbs.
· Experience operating and maintaining a tractor and a BCS machine.
Compensation:
· $20 per hour, no overtime
· One hour paid time off per 30 hours worked (not to exceed 40 hours) that can be taken after 90 days of employment.
· One small vegetable share worth of produce each week. (Worth $30).
· An end of season bonus may be given based upon a performance review.
