Want Tips for Starting a Small Backyard Garden?

Hey folks,

I want to start a small backyard garden this season & want some tips from people who have been growing their own produce for a while. I have got a decent sized backyard but I am unsure where to start. I am thinking of planting some tomatoes, herbs & maybe a few veggies but I am kind of new to this.

What’s the best way to get started in terms of soil prep and watering? Any advice on organic gardening or local plants that work well in our area? I want to hear about any good composting methods, if anyone has any experience with that please share with me.

Also i have check this https://exchange.farmfreshri.org/t/farmfresh-ri-work-wantedworkday-course still need tips. if there are any tips please share with me.

Thank you.

Hi Sakura!

There are lots of great plant sales going on within the next few weeks and Lucayda Farm in Cranston has plant starts all summer long! If you’re in PVD, Southside Community Landtrust has their plant sale on May 17th & 18th.

If you are looking for native plants for pollinator habitats: Plant Community RI would be a great place to reach out to.

The library’s in Providence have some great reference books for starting gardening

This response isn’t exactly gardening advice, but the above places would be great people to connect with!
