Wrights Dairy Farm seeks farmhand

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery is a fifth generation, vertically integrated dairy farm located in northern Rhode Island. Wright’s is an independent dairy with 120 Holstein cows, its own creamery, and a robust on-farm retail bakery that serves 6500 customers per week.

Position summary: This position is responsible for working with and around cows, maintaining their comfort, environment and health. Operating machinery and keeping up the aesthetic of WDF&B as needed. Following all safety protocols and working effectively in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Cow Sense

  2. Handling, moving and being comfortable around animals

  3. Operate Machinery

  4. Skid loader, safely and efficiently

  5. Maintaining Cow Comfort, Environment and Health

  6. Keeping barns clean, following protocols, feeding etc

  7. Aesthetic of Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery

  8. Yard work, snow removal, keeping up appearances for customers

  9. Safety

  10. Working smart and efficiently, following all safety protocols

Competencies:

  • Experience is preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable of animals
  • Must be able to follow instructions
  • Must be extremely aware of cleanliness of self and equipment
  • Observe and monitor herd health
  • Follow and maintain protocols for newborn calves
  • Assist in cleaning barns
  • Assist in cow care and health

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No supervisory responsibilities are required for this position.

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.

Housing:

Not available for this position

Work Environment:

This position involves work outside and in an open-air building, so extreme changes in temperature should be expected. Direct contact with animals and their feces is part of daily work. As well as loud noises and handling of cleaning chemicals.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours:

This position is full-time (32-40 Hours) with a combination of early morning 6 am or afternoons 2:30 p.m. A farm operates everyday - no day off or holiday - so work on some holidays may be required.

Pay & Benefits:

$15.00 - $18.00 per hour depending on experience. Health, Dental, Vison insurance, 401K, Matching 401K, PTO/Sick time (some benefits have waiting period)

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  2. Experience working with large animals.

While performing the essential functions for this position, the employee is regularly required to work in a hot, moist environment using detergents and cleaners. The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach, carry, stoop, kneel and crouch, crawl and frequently lift or move objects 10-50 pounds numerous times per day. Must be able to prioritize essential tasks, as well as, handle multiple tasks simultaneously throughout the shift.
